IRON MAN #121

UNPUBLISHED COVER

This was a total surprise to me when this turned up. My mom recently moved and found this rejected version of the cover to Iron Man #121 in a box she labeled "Bob's stuff". Apparently, I left it at her home when I was there for a visit--26 years ago. Bless her heart--she held onto it and returned it to me a while ago.

The cover was rejected due to the characters being considered too high on the page and the editor felt the Iron Man figure needed to be more dynamic. I think the editor was just being very cautious with me, since I was a 'wet-behind-the-ears' newcomer and had only handled a few covers at that point. Obviously, this cover would have worked out fine, as well. But remember: back in those days, they were adamant about not obscuring the logos.

If I remember correctly, Dave Cockrum came up with the revised layout that I used for the published version. This page was penciled way back in 1979 and inked in 2005. I also added the original trade dress.
