Perhaps a show named "Doomsday" is just way too prophetic. In this case, it most certainly was.
Billed as a "post-apocalyptic odyssey," Doomsday was supposed to revolve around the Bradley family, a clan that travels in a souped-up RV searching for a new home. Stern was expected to team with animators from King of the Hill and The Simpsons, as well as the son of the late jazz crooner Mel Tormé, Tracy Torme’, to produce and star in the sci-fi series.

I received a phone call from Tracy himself, who asked me to create some pre-production designs for the series. What you see on this page are four of those preliminary designs featuring the characters that were to inhabit the world of Doomsday.

Unfortunately, Tracy's father passed away during the time we were working on the project and the thing seemed to go downhill from there.

At one point, Doomsday was slated for a fall premiere on the UPN Network.
However, UPN chief Dean Valentine told the New York Daily News that the first batch of writers turned in a "decent" script, "but it wasn't great and if you do this kind of show, a show about the aftermath of nuclear war, it has got to be great. And it's got to be incredibly funny, and it just fell short."

Although the series was ultimately cancelled before it got off the ground, my experience working with Mr. Torme' was an enjoyable and rewarding one.
