THE BOZZ CHRONICLES

In 2006, David Michelinie and I were approached by representatives of filmmaker Robert Zemeckis who expressed an interest in developing Michelinie's creator-owned comic series into a CGI animated motion picture.

Unforunately, as things do in Hollywood, the project died in the early stages of development and the model sheets I created for the pitch went into the dark drawer of my studio.

I recently moved and found these model sheets while unpacking. I thought it would be fun to share them with in the February and March Art Find features.

The "Bozz Chronicles" is an action-adventure/Sci-Fi story with lots of humor. At its core, the Marvel/EPIC comic book series dealt with what were, essentially, four fish out of water: an American cowboy in Victorian London, a blueblood aristocrat trying to make his mark as a Scotland Yard detective, a gentle giant of an alien stranded on Earth in an era when he couldn't possibly "phone home," and a streetwise young woman whose attitude and practical perspective would be more than suited to modern times than England in the 1890s. These characters found each other and bonded, as a sort of mildly dysfunctional but deeply caring family. Their quirks and interactions created a natural source of humor, and through that a clear channel for audience sympathy and identification.

The milieu in which these characters operated was basically the Real World as it was in the Victorian Era. But since the main purpose of creating the detective agency that becomes the springboard for plotlines was to keep the title character's incredibly sharp mind occupied (and away from thoughts of suicide), the cases they sought out were extreme, and ranged from encounters with the supernatural to battles against H.G. Wells-ian super-science.
