ABOUT THE CHARACTERS:
Jacob
Nakai is a Native American, raised by his shaman grandfather, who
rises to prominence as a master stage magician. What sets him apart
from the David Copperfields of the world is the fact that he
utilizes genuine magics in his performances.
Eventually,
Nakai crosses paths with Adonis DuLac, the head of the Las Vegas Mafia,
who is attempting to strong arm him into a management deal. After refusing
the mob's final offer, DuLac’s hoods sabotage one of Nakai’s stage
props, which results in his being horribly disfigured.
Nakai
is befriended by a mysterious, native American entity known only as Mwerta,
who becomes his man-servant and confidante.
Falling
back to the ancient heritage of his people and garbed in black
leather with a golden mask that hides his shattered face, Deathmask begins a
terrible vengeance trail against the powerful men responsible for his
pain. It is a daunting task--a lone, mystic warrior against the most
powerful and wealthy crime boss in the country.
Deathmask
is not, by any means, a hero. Rather, he's the wrong man to be
pushed beyond the edge of sanity.
ABOUT THE STORY:
Last
time we left our anti-hero:
The
mystic marauder's mask came to the attention of an obsessed collector,
Severn Ashe, a man who will go to any extreme to possess it. Also, the
secret origin of Jacob Nakai’s first encounter with the Deathmask was
revealed.
This
issue:
Is
it magic, or merely a science so different we can’t comprehend it?
Whatever the Deathmask represents, mystically-powered relic hunter is
determined to make it his own--even if that means prying it from Jacob Nakai’s
cold, dead body
