This month I'm presenting a new feature on my editorial page, namely a video blog! In rummaging through my archives, I came across a dozen or so VHS tapes of various interviews and television appearances that I've done over the years. Some of them are from my personal collection, while others are live broadcasts. None of them have been seen outside of their live presentations, that is until now. First up is an interview that I did on Manhattan Cable television back in 1982! Yes, I was only 28 years old at the time. I had just come off my first run of Iron Man with David Michelinie and John Romita Jr. and was hard at work on the first Hercules: Prince of Power mini-series for Marvel. In the video you'll actually get an opportunity to see those Hercules pages in their pencil form. A side note about that appearance in February of 1982: the streets outside were terrible. New York was in the midst of a blizzard and I happened to come down with the flu a few days before. At the time of the interview, I was running a 101 degree fever. However, the show must go on, so even though I couldn't hail a cab, I trudged through the snow, sick as a dog, all the way to the Manhattan Cable studios. So I was feeling a little lackluster by the time of taping. Big Bob's Comic Book Quiz was a local Manhattan Cable Access show that ran weekly. I had no idea what's happened to the host or whether the show is still in existence or not. It was, however, a fairly entertaining time as you'll see, mostly due to the lack of technical expertise of everyone involved in the production. I mean, it was amateur with a capital "A"! I felt it was important to preserve this show and the other video tapes considering that the VHS tapes, in some cases, are over 30 years old. Thanks to the diligence of our webmistress, the fabulous Sorah Suhng, this video and all the others are being transferred to digital format and will be presented on this site in the months to come. However, this is not the end of my usual editorial blog. We're just using this space, this month, to premiere the video feature. Next month, we're moving it to it's own page and I'll be back with my normal ranting and raving. In the meantime, enjoy the show!
