IRON MAN:THE END- 2050 ARMOR

In 2001, David Michelinie and I were contacted by the Iron Man editorial office and asked to pitch an idea for IRON MAN: THE END. As guidelines, we were told that they wanted us to come up with a story that would conclude the series, to look at it as if we had been plotting the series all along, and that this was to be the final Iron Man story ever. They wanted a story done the way we would do it, a Michelinie/Layton story that fit the tone of the stories we had written and drawn during our two regular stints on the book. We put our heads together and came up with a plot that would be how we, Dave and Bob, would end the series.

Although that particular project ended in frustration and failure, David and I were invited to come back to Marvel Comics in 2006 to revisit IRON MAN:THE END. David and I are back to work on the project and a revised version of that original story is current in production.

During the first incarnation of "The End", set in the year 2050, I came up with a bunch of preliminary drawings for the special, including several armor designs for Iron Man 2050 and his soon-to-be replacement--Metallix.  Although Metallix won't be appearing in our latest draft (since he went on to become one of our Future Comics characters) the armors I came up with for the 2001 draft were never fleshed out--until now! It hasn't been determined whether we'll use any of the 2001 designs in the latest version of "The End", but I thought it would be fun to create some more defined, finished art for those original armor designs.
