Just when you thought you'd never see them again, the Future Comics characters are begin to experience a genuine resurgence. Along with motion picture development, Ultra-Pro comic bags will be using the likenesses of Freemind, Deathmask, Peacekeeper and Metallix on the packaging of their products later this year. The Future Comic characters were created by David Michelinie & Bob Layton and back issues are currently available on this website.

BOB & DAVID MICHELINIE--TOGETHER AGAIN ON KOLCHAK:THE NIGHT STALKER!
David Michelinie, my long-time
creative partner, was recently hired to write a Kolchak:The
Night Stalker mini-series for Moonstone Books. In the course
of discussions with Editor Dave Ulanski, my buddy David mentioned my name
as a possible cover artist for the project. Needless to say, once
asked, I jumped at any opportunity of reuniting the two of us on any
comics project! Check back here in the months to come for further updates on the project and a preview of my cover designs for the mini-series. In the meantime--go check out the other great titles from Moonstone Books. |

BOB JOURNEYS TO THE 'GREAT WHITE NORTH 'FOR TORONTO'S PARADISE COMIC CON '06 |
|||||||||||
|
The Paradise Comicon is Toronto’s largest convention that focuses only on comic books and sequential art. The con was held in the well-appointed National Trade Center facility on the grounds of the Canadian National Exposition. Yoram Matzkin, one of my most ardent supporters over the years, was my host as I traveled to Canada to attend the show on April 28th. The con was an enormous amount of fun (and hard work at times) as I was literally swamped by well wishers, die-hard Iron Man fans and regular readers of our boblayton.com website. I also had the opportunity to get re-acquainted with some old friends from the business like David Ross, Diana Shultz, Bart Sears, Andy Smith and Jimmy Palmiotti, as well as the pleasure of meeting a few notables as Tom Grummett, Pat Davidson and Mike Mayhew for the first time I'd like to give special thanks to Tim Lo (my trusted guide through the wilds of Toronto), Kasra Ghanbari (The Modok Madman), Co-Promoter Peter Dixon & staff and my pal Yoram for a genuinely entertaining weekend.

BOB'S BOOK SIGNING AT 'READ MORE COMICS' FOR FREE COMIC BOOK DAY '06
Free Comic Book Day is an annual give-away promotion effort by the comic book industry to help bring new readers into independently-owned and operated comic book stores. Although I have publicly questioned the effectiveness of this promotion on many occasions, my loyalty to my local comic book shop, Read More Comics in Brandon, Florida and its proprietor--Scott, has never been in doubt. On May 6th, shortly after arriving back from Toronto, I headed to Scott's store to greet the fans and partake of the festivities. With hot tunes, a free food cookout and loads of costumed cohorts, this was the most fun I've had at a shop appearence in a long time! My thanks to Scott and his crew for a truly enjoyable F.C.B.D. experience. Also, a special tip of the hat to Kent Akselsen for the additional pics. |
