OCTOBER 2005 GALLERY

IRON MAN / f. f. #82 homage' Variant RECREATION

My pal, Mike Jackson, who had me do the Champions #15 recreation last month, asked me to do a little more complicated project. Based on the brilliant Jack Kirby cover of Fantastic Four #82, Mike had me replace the various characters that originally appeared with different versions of the Iron Man armor. This was also the first time I've taken a stab at the Ultimate and Granov versions of Shellhead.

IRON MAN #127 RECREATION

This recreation of the classic en masse' villain free-for-all was done for a fellow Floridian, Derek Muthart. I stuck fairly close to the original on this one and never once stopped to ask what "en masse' "meant.

iron man/armor wars double-page spread

I've been working on this ever since I did the "Alcohol storyline " spread for my pal, Daren Domina. I thought that a similar page, with a montage' of images from the 'other famous Iron Man storyline' might be something fun to do. (I'm obviously a glutton for punishment.) So-- I've worked on a few figure here-and-there each week until I finally finished the massive bugger. Altogether, I estimate that it took me 36 man hours to complete it. Translation: it was a major ball-buster. The original's size is 22"x 17". I will consider bids on the piece, starting at $800.00. I'll notify the highest bidder personally once I've heard from everyone interested.

Unpublished IRON MAN #200 Variant RECREATION

There's an interesting story behind my doing this recreation. I was the original penciller of the cover to Iron Man's 200th issue. However, they bumped my version, for reasons I can't recall. Recently, I recreated this unpublished version for a friend--but he asked me not to display it, as he wanted to keep it in his private collection. Fortunately, he recently changed his mind and is allowing me to display it here for the first time.

IRON MAN #146 RECREATION

This was always a favorite cover of mine--probably because of it's compositional simplicity. It was also memorable for all the angry mail David and received for killing Vic Martinelli's dog 'Peanut' in this issue's story.

IRON MAN #128 RECREATION

Yep--I did another one. This time (I believe this one is actually the sixth recreation of that particular cover) it was for Lance Suarez--a very nice fellow and big time Iron Man fan.

2005 hulkbuster armor

A fan recently sent me an e-mail and asked if I had ever given thought to creating a B.L. version of the HULKBUSTER armor.

My response was that I felt that the regular armor has always been sufficient to 'bust up' the Hulk. (as evidenced in Iron Man #131-133.)

But--the notion motivated to me to give it a shot and here's what I came up with.

zoom suit #1 redone cover

This series is the brainchild of former Marvel Marketing Maven--John Taddeo. John has been nice enough to ask me to do a few covers for his new comic--some as homage's to my old Iron Man covers. This cover was a recent redo I did of the original--redrawing the Bane character closer to John's specs.

Here's another cover I did recently for John Taddeo's Zoom Suit, based on the original layout of Iron Man #131.

iron man #237 trade dress and logo

Robert Haines, the fellow who recently purchased the original art for this cover by Jackson Guice and me, wrote and asked if I would consider recreating the paste-ups for this cover (the art no longer had any of the original trade dress on it.).  I had to recreate the figure in the corner box by hand, since I couldn't find a good b&w version of it.  I sent that corner box drawing along to Robert as a gift since he’s giving this spectacular cover a good home.
