captain america #31 variant
This page, a
perfect representation of propaganda art from the 1940's was
commissioned by Peter Nyugen. Peter is 31, Asian, and specifically
has a love for comic propaganda art from that era. To quote Peter,
"The historical significance is what fascinates me, and especially the
demonization of various cultures, be they German or Japanese to
perpetuate the ideology of American hegemony is something I don't think
as a society we should ever forget...although it seems we always do."
I couldn't agree more, Pete! The cover was originally drawn
by Alex Schomburg with the variant replacing Bucky with a female
sidekick.

the wasp single figure
This single figure
illustration was commissioned by Paul Bauer. Paul requested the most
current costume for Janet--and given her extensive wardrobe over the
last three decades, I was relieved that he was so specific. |
 |
wonder girl single figure
This
commission of the new Wonder Girl from DC Comics (the blonde
version) was requested by Jason Scanlon, Jason said that the
character has a couple of different costumes, but he didn't care which
one I chose. His only major request is that she have bare feet in the
piece!
Like a boob, I
forgot the barefoot part and had to redo the entire drawing.
But--the customer
is always right! Thanks for your patience, Jason.

robot man single figure
Deane Aikins asked for this commission
for DC's Robotman, which he said was, in his opinion, the "Golden
Age Iron Man". Hey--who am I to argue with an Assistant Professor
at the Department of Psychiatry at Yale's School of Medicine? I
do get interesting clients, don't I? |

x-o manowar #1 variant
Brett Culp gets the "Most Unusual
Commission Request of the Month" award!
Brett asked that sections of this cover
recreation, like the face & torso, reflect a finished inked style while
the background and other elements could have more of a preliminary look.
When I asked him
why, Mr. Culp replied that he wanted it to reflect both the creative
spirit of a "work-in-progress" and my skills as an artist. |

Iron Man in his Golden Avenger armor

covers as the inspiration.
