Back in April 2006, I did two Iron Man concept drawings with the idea of creating a streamlined nanite version of both Doctor Doom (April 2006 archives) and Iron Man (November 2005 archives).

At the time, I had intended them just as entertainment, but as David Michelinie and I began the task of updating the storyline to our original Iron Man: The End project, we saw the opportunity to use that nano-concept in the actual events of the saga. This is a ‘first look’ at the ‘last Iron Man armor design’.
