Hey there,
I was just browsing through the Colony part of the cool Bob Layton website when I couldn't help but notice part of the soundtrack from the Steven Soderbergh version of Solaris playing as composed by Cliff Martinez.
I wonder how many people have noticed that?
I suppose my question is: Is this sound clip in because it sounds good which it does, or are you one of the few out there who enjoyed the experience of the movie on many levels?
As you can tell, the movie for me was something else!
Thanks,
Robin Bernard
P.S. I bet you don't get too many e-mails like this one

Dear Robin,
As a matter of fact, the soundtrack on the Colony page is from the movie--Solaris! And--you're the first to recognize it. We are of like mind that the 2002 Soderberg film is highly underrated. I've watched the George Clooney vehicle numerous times and found it to be one of his most riveting performances. In fact, the entire cast was stellar...if you'll pardon the pun. I'm a sucker for science-fiction stories with a moral and that provoke thought. In the seventies, it was films like Soylent Green and Solaris is a movie I would rank in that category as having something to say about human behavior. I think it probably didn't do as well at the box office for that very reason. Not enough explosions and knife fights to sate the average moviegoers appetite, I suppose. When people go to a science-fiction film--they usually want aliens and dogfights...not a confrontation with an embodiment of the concept of God.
The soundtrack, in particular, was very haunting to me and when I began running Colony on this website, I wanted to invoke the same feelings that Solaris' theme created in me.
So--good call, Robin. Stay tuned for the conclusion of Book Two of Colony, coming in a few months. If everything goes well in Hollywood, the start of Book Three may unfold on your television set or a theater near you.
