Hey there, Mr. Layton,
I'm sure with all the fans you meet during the busy convention season, you don't remember all of them, but my name is Marvin Law. We met each other initially at the New York Comic Con, back in April and again at the Fan Expo in Toronto. I initially showed you my samples consisting of, Dr. Strange & the Scarlet Witch vs. Dr. Doom and the other set of samples were of Iron Fist vs. Elektra.
You were very helpful in pointing out many issues/problems with art, and offered a lot of good advice on how to amend those issues quickly and efficiently. You specifically suggested that I check out your then recent video lesson on the 3X3 rule, which was most illuminating and thought provoking to my pseudo young mind. It opened up my eyes to new thoughts and ideas on how to approach my art work. I'm just emailing you this work, because it's long overdue to have you take a look at it personally. But mostly, I just wanted to thank you for taking the time out of your busy convention schedule, to chat with me on how to improve my artwork and hopefully it shows in these new pages.

Marv,
One of the great joys I have as a veteran cartoonist is helping young talent to realize their potential. Over the years, I have been privileged to have trained over forty individuals like Sean Chen, Paul Ryan, Brett Breeding, with the Fabulous Sorah Suhng being my last graduate. That's one of the main reasons that I post my tutorials on this website. Although those rules of thumb are only a starting point, so many beginning artists fumble around in the dark, not sure how the mental approach to the process works and succeeding mostly through trial and error. Those rules are there merely to aid in sorting one's thought processes out during the large learning curve. I so pleased that you found my teaching tools helpful and please continue to send me your work so I can see how you are progressing. On a down note, we still haven't got the website up to 100% yet, so I had to postpone the second part of the Bob's Simple Rules of Thumb video until next month.
My apologies to you all.
Bob
