In issue #1, we introduce the original main characters of the series HERCULES, the RECORDER and SKYPPI the SKRULL, as well as the new members of the cast: Prime Minister Caldon Spincor (which everyone will mispronounce as ‘Sphincter’), Arimathes and his wife, Cassandrea and their super-powered triplets, Ursus, Antonitus, and Juno (female).
The story revolves around the 75th anniversary celebration of the democratization of the Wilamean star system and Hercules’ now-legendary (but somewhat fictionalized) defeat of Galactus (from Hercules: Prince of Power/Volume 1/issue#4). Emperor Arimathes and his heirs have become little more than figureheads—like the British Royal Family.
Ari, now over 100 years old, is in poor health. Being the son of Hercules, his stamina is way better than a normal mortal, but his time is swiftly coming to an end.
Hercules has become somewhat of an embarrassment to the system’s government, and the Royal Family, since the onslaught of an Alzheimer-like disease that has made his behavior…well… somewhat ‘questionable’. Although the spells come-and-go, Herc now has occasion to forget people, where he is at any given moment and what he’s supposed to be doing at the time.
P.M. ‘Sphincter’, a member of a conservative Temperance Movement, considers the Prince of Power an embarrassment to the Republic and plots to discredit the Olympian during the celebration, forcing the Royal Family to abdicate the throne in favor of total Parliamentary rule (with him in charge, of course). The P.M. has an uphill battle, because the Royal Family are beloved by the people—especially by the non-human members of the Wilamean system (like the lil’ guys on Ceigrim-7) who have gained equality during their rule.
Hercules:Twilight of a God is written and inked by Bob Layton, pencilled by Ron Lim and colored by Mike Cavallaro.
This four-issue mini-series has not been scheduled.
