After years of planning and negotiating, David Michelinie and I have finally put together a deal and creative team for our first major motion picture based on the Future Comics character—FREEMIND!
The project was unveiled at this year’s New York Comic Con at a panel hosted by legendary Batman producer Michael Uslan.
The creative A-List team consists of screenwriter Dante W. Harper and legendary X-Files director David Nutter. The film will be produced by David Uslan of COG-1 Entertainment and Marc Rosen at Rosen/Obst Productions.
Updates on the project will be available on this site.
Here’s a sampling of the press write-ups for the project:
SMALLVILLE DIRECTOR TO HELM FREEMIND FILM
Remember Future Comics from a few years back? They were one of many 21st Century small-press publishers crushed down by the unforgiving comic book marketplace.
Still their concepts live on as MTV Splash Page reports that producer David Uslan plans to bring their 'Freemind' concept to the big screen with TV vet David Nutter at the helm.
'Freemind' told the story of a Stephen Hawking-esque genius who builds an artificial surrogate body for himself as a way to regain mobility. He becomes able to transfer his intellect into the superhuman robotic form for brief periods of time, and ends up unleashing all the potential of his mind.
Uslan says that Nutter, a veteran of fan-fave shows like 'Smallville', 'The X-Files' and 'Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles' is poised to make his feature film debut.
“[Nutter] is a very character-driven director,” said Uslan. "This was a very non-comics comic book, based purely around a character — so he’s the perfect person for it.”
