UNITY #1 VARIANT COVER
This variant cover was done
for my long-time friend and current Hollywood film and television
producer David Uslan. David was a frequent visitor to the Valiant
offices when he was a kid and has remained an ardent fan of the
characters. His father, my longtime friend and Batfilms Executive
Producer Michael Uslan, always took the time out of his busy schedule to
bring David up to see me during the glory days of Valiant and I'm
incredibly proud that the adult David has chosen to follow in his
father's illustrious footsteps.

THE AVENGERS: THE KREE/SKRULL
WAR TPB RECREATION
This cover, originally drawn
by Neal Adams, was commissioned by Matthew Siu. I'm uncomfortable
doing recreations of work by guys like Neal--for a myriad of reasons.
Mostly out of respect. Neal is, without dispute, an industry
icon. So, if I may offer a bit of sage advice, here's a quick guideline
for asking for recreations:
1) Pick an artist that is no
longer available. It's very difficult to get an original Gil Kane
cover these days, so I have no problem doing a variant of his work or
anyone who is no longer with us. Or better yet, choose a cover that I actually had a hand in creating.
2) Some artists, who
currently charge outrageous fees for their art, also have extremely bad tempers! (I'm not
referring to you, Neal! He's is a very gracious guy) That's why you're asking me to
do it instead of THEM!! I, on the other hand, have no
desire to make MORE enemies in the biz. So, pick your future
recreation wisely and make my life a lot easier in the process! |

X-MEN #141/LEGION OF SUPERHEROES VARIANT RECREATION
Speaking of which, here's a variant cover
that I've officially done for THE LAST TIME!!!!
Here's my reasons:
1) To put it bluntly--John Byrne
doesn't like me. Not that I give a damn about that--
I'm only trying to make a living and keep my fans happy. But, it is
problematic.
2) I had absolutely nothing to
do with his original design for X-Men #141, yet I keep getting asked to recreate the
damned thing!! Regardless of the man and his controversial opinions,
I respect Byrne's body of work and I know he doesn't appreciate other
illustrators recreating his art. I will respect his wishes and cease
doing Byrne recreations.
3) Although #141is probably Byrne's
best known cover (and it IS brilliant), I'm freakin'
sick of it!
Oh, this recreation was commissioned by
Edward Walker. (Sorry for the rant, Ed! Not your fault!) |

POWER GIRL AND THE GOLDEN AGE FLASH:
Supporting Our Troops-Minefield Clearance In Iraq
Kevin Hare sent me a challenging concept to
draw for his commission. The plot for the picture had both of the J.S.A.
heroes in Iraq helping clearing up a minefield. The idea was that
this would allow the American soldiers to bring much needed food and
protection to a village overrun with insurgents. I didn't have the
heart to tell Kevin that, on Earth II, Al Gore won the election!

For those of you who are on
my waiting list for a commissioned drawing, please keep in mind that I'm
hard at work inking the
IRON MAN:THE END special edition. Additionally
, I will be on the road promoting the release of
Iron Man: Legacy of Doom
mini-series
& IRON MAN:THE END.
Normally, I would be turning your commissioned drawings around quickly (as I'm
known for doing). But, recently, I only have
a very small window of time each month to devote to my beloved art clients.
Your patience
is greatly appreciated and I will do everything in my power to complete
your commissions in a timely fashion.
Thank you.
