IRON MAN #143 unpublished COVER

This cover was rejected after the Editor-In-Chief stated that he wanted more scope on the scene, since it took place in "friggin' outer space". So, in the final version, I made the figures smaller and showed more of the space station and debris. This page was originally penciled back in 1981 and inked by me in 2005.

HERCULES #4 unpublished COVER

Originally, Marvel's Editor-In-Chief rejected this cover to the conclusion of my mini-series, stating that if I had an issue starring a character as popular as Galactus, having him on the cover would probably sell more books than Frankie Raye's glowing hand.  In retrospect, I'm inclined to agree since this turned out to be one of the most well-received stories of my career.

IRON MAN #128 cover recreation

I think this is the only version of this cover that I'm going to do in 2005.

No offense, guys--but this is the fifth recreation I've done of this piece and I'm really tired of doing it.  It's not that I done love it and respect it's place in comics history.  It just that there are HUNDREDS of  other Marvel covers that I've done over my career.

IRON MAN #150 cover recreation

Well-- let's do a survey:

The four most popular requests for Bob Layton cover recreations:

1.Iron Man #118

2 Iron Man #126

3 Iron Man #128

4.This one.

X-Men #105 VARIANT cover recreation

Here's a commission that I really sank my teeth into.

This piece is based on the original cover of X-Men #105, whose interiors also featured the work of a fledgling inker named Bob Layton. My ol' pal, Gary Hart of St Pete, FL requested this version which was a pleasantly-nostalgic experience to create.

IRON MAN #47 cover recreation

This cover was originally penciled by Gil Kane.  In this recreation, I've corrected some of the drawing--such as mistakes in the design of the various armors and the butchered production job that the Bullpen did on the trade dress.

MAGNUS #1  RECREATION

Originally penciled by Art Nichols, this cover was the first of four that we did together on Magnus.

Commissioned through the Artists' Choice, I enjoyed working on this 'blast from the past'--since I didn't do many Valiant covers during my stint there.  I was always too busy running the company, so finding time for the fun jobs was rare.

MARVEL TWO-IN-ONE #76 VARIANT RECREATION

This cover was very challenging, but I'm pleased with the result, as is Brian Sagar, the fellow who commissioned it.It's actually based on a cover I drew for Power Man & Iron Fist back in the eighties.Mr. Sagar is charmingly obsessed with all things related to the Two-In-One title and even has a website devoted to his favorite Marvel series.

FREEMIND #0 UNPUBLISHED  COVER

It is the very first rendition I did for my two Future Comics characters, Freemind and Deathmask. The reason I rejected it was that I failed to create any scale in the background of the drawing.  I realized that, even though their battle is taking place several hundred feet off the ground, they could very well be hovering only several inches without something to show scale.

fUTURE COMICS CHARACTERS' X-MAS CARD

This was another Future Comics  piece that I recently found in the storage facility.

I drew this piece a few years ago as a company Christmas card and for the December issue of our ordering catalog. I recently came upon this drawing while conducting an inventory on the Future warehouse prior to the bankruptcy auction.

IRON MAN #128 SPLASH PAGE character studY

I recently had a client back out of this commissioned piece, but I went ahead and finished the drawing in the hopes that I could find it a home. The original is 11"x17" and is based on the splash to Iron Man #128.
