PM & IF #85

UNPUBLISHED cover

I found this in a box labeled 'Shanna's stuff".  In it were drawings that were done by my daughter when she was 8 or 9 years old. To my shock, I found that she had done a wonderful crayon illustration on the back of this proposed cover that I did back when I was scheduled to take over as writer/inker of the series.

GALACTUS FULL PAGE

This illustration was done for a newcomer to my site--Frank A. Baldevarona of San Jose, CA. Believe it or not, Frank was the first person in years to ask me to do Galactus--a character that I love to draw and had some association with in my career. Even though he requested a simple single figure drawing, I couldn't resist embellishing the environment to suit the Devourer of Worlds.

T.O.S. #59 VARIANT RECREATION

A while back, I received a request to recreate that classic cover but replacing the figures with versions  from the Armor Wars era.  It seemed like a easy and fun job, so I started the piece before the payment arrived.

Unfortunately, the fellow who commissioned it backed, so this drawing went into a pile of uncompleted work until I recently.

SUBTERRANEAN IRON MAN ARMOR

I was creating what started out as a sketch for the June Iron Man Conceptual Drawing of the Month and I simply got carried away. The next thing I know, it suddenly grows into a full-blown cover design.  But--I sort of like it!  Maybe I should have thrown the Mole Man into it...but what the hey?  Enjoy.

solar: Man of the atom original art

for dynamic forces litho prints

This is the first of two illustrations that D.F. commissioned me to create as limited edition lithographic prints.

This particular piece is based on the Valiant incarnation of the character and inked in the organic style taught to me by Barry Windsor-Smith.

Since I personally feel that Barry's artistic interpretation of Solar is the definitive version, I wanted to approach the creation of this piece with the same artistic rendering we did on the character during our time at Valiant.

Iron Man' DOUBLE-PAGE SPREAD

When one of my premiere patrons, Daren Domina, asked me for a montage commission based on the books that led up to the "Demon in a Bottle" finale' in Iron Man #128 (collected in the Power of Iron Man trade paperback), I really wanted to do something that would do justice to the storyline and repay Daren for all his thoughtfulness and support over the years. So--I kinda went crazy.

Needless to say, Daren was pleased with the result and I hope he's found a suitable place on his wall for it by now.

single figure PHOENIX

This commission is yet another in a line of female X-men drawings for my fellow Floridian--Gary Hart.

I think the piece speaks for itself.

freemind presentation page

This piece was done as a  present for Marc Rosen of Heyday Films. I recently had drinks with Marc while visiting in Hollywood and found out that it was his birthday. Marc is an admirer of David Michelinie and my work on Freemind, so I thought a model sheet, with a description of the character's premise, would be just the thing for the wall of his office. Happy Birthday, Marc!

McWyman AVENGERS inks

My ol' pal. Larry Clay asked me if I'd ink a couple of drawing from his personal art collection. This piece was obviously based on the story from the classic 4th issue of the Avengers. Although I'm not familiar with this penciler's work, I did my best to make Larry proud. Soon after I inked the drawing, Mr. Clay got Avengers veteran Tom Smith to color it.

McWyman Mary Jane and Peter Parker inks

This is the other McWyman pencil page that Larry asked me to complete.  Unlike the Avengers piece, this illo needed some embellishing--including the addition of the Peter Parker figure and the photographer's umbrella.

But when M.J. is looking this hot--who the Hell is looking at what I added?!
