IRON MAN RECREATION OF SUPERMAN #8

Abraham Martinez had originally asked me to do a simple cover recreation. But, he finally decided to go with something a bit more original. Abe asked me to do a cover modeled after one of his favorite John Byrne covers--Superman #8 (this same layout was also by Byrne as a X-Men cover during his run on that title).

 IRON MODOK

Big time fan and art collector, Kasra Ghanbari, has been commissioning a series of artists to do covers featuring perhaps the silliest villain in Marvel Comics history, MODOK. To quote Kasra: "The whole idea is to get former Marvel artists to produce great pieces of art that bring out the inherent humor in MODOK...the dude is just freaking funny. There's no way around it. He's a big head in a flying chair. What was Jack Kirby thinking?"

JANES HULK INKS

In another art project that Kasra Ghanbari is working on (a bit less silly than the Modok project),, he has a penciled piece from Jim Janes that appears to be an unpublished Hulk cover
from around 1980. He’s had several well-known inkers do their interpretation of it including Joe Rubinstein, Bob McLeod and David Gutierrez.

UNPUBLISHED X-FACTOR ANNUAL #1 COVER

This cover, depicting actual scenes from X-Factor's adventure into the U.S.S.R., was rejected for being too busy.  Eventually, I settled on a more symbolic design for the published version.

This cover was penciled in 1986 and inked in 2005.  I also added the logo and trade dress.

X-MEN #113 RECREATION

I've been asked to do so many variations of this particular cover over the years that I decided to do a straight recreation.

DAREN'S  GALLERY #1--TUSKA PENCILS

Kang the Conqueror fanatic, Daren Domina, asked me to ink several Iron Man illos that he's collected over the years.  This one is by the Great George Tuska.  As you will see on the penciled version, I added a few elements, as well as embellishing the figures with a few tweaks.  The end result came out looking a lot more dynamic, if I say so myself.

DAREN DOMINA GALLERY #2--MELO TITANIUM MAN PENCILS

This one was penciled by a little known Brazilian artist, Adrianna Melo.

To be honest, it was like pulling teeth trying to make it work. The perspective was a bit off and I couldn't fix the wonky Leifeld-like proportions without a total redraw. As Dick Giordano use to say to me: "You can't put aluminum siding on a lean-two"

DAREN DOMINA'S GALLERY #3--COLON KANG PENCILS

On the other hand, this piece from Daren's collection, by the legendary Gene Colon, was a total blast to embellish. The only problem I have with inking Gene is that he bears down really hard with that smeary #2 pencil that he uses, making the clean-up process take hours to complete.

DAREN DOMINA'S  GALLERY #4--HORLEY KANG PENCILS

This inking commission was drawn by Alex Horley (although I'm not familiar with his work, the illo was very well done.).

DAREN DOMINA'S GALLERY #5--GRANT PENCILS

Daren knows I'm generally not a big fan of Keron Grant's style and was a little worried that I wouldn't enjoy inking this illo by him.

But, I have to say that I liked this particular cover--although it was a labor-intensive assignment.

Ron Lim Iron Man inks

This  illustration, commissioned by Frank A. Baldevarona of San Jose, CA., was Ron Lim's interesting take on the cover of Iron Man #126 originally done by JR.JR and me.

HERCULES VS IRON MAN

I received a request for this commission all the way from the U.K .  Vicki Tinkler was wanting to get her husband, who is a big fan of my work, something unique for his upcoming birthday, so she contacted me to order this illustration. It's great to have devoted fans in Jolly Ole England, but the postage is a killer!  I hope your husband had a fabulous birthday, Vicki.
