iRON MAN #200 Variant RECREATION

There's an interesting story behind my doing this recreation. I was the original penciller of the cover to Iron Man's 200th issue. However, they bumped my version, for reasons I can't recall. I decided to take a shot at how I would have handled that 200th issue, using the same elements that appeared in the published version. Here's the results.

IRON MAN #121 Unpublished cover

This was a total surprise to me when this turned up. My Mom recently moved and found this rejected version of the cover to Iron Man #121 in a box she labeled "Bob's stuff".  The page was rejected due to the characters being considered too high on the page and the editor felt the Iron Man figure needed to be more dynamic.

Champions #1 Variant recreation

My pal, Larry Clay, is a huge fan of the Champions and asked me to do my version of a premiere cover for that series.

champions/avenger #4 recreation

Larry originally came up with this concept for his recreation, but changed his mind after I had begun to pencil it. (not his fault--I jumped the gun, folks.) I created a new concept for him, but decide to go ahead and finish this one, 'cause it's kinda nifty.

iron Man #123 splash recreation

This piece was recently done for a fan in Canada. It was a recreation of the splash to Iron Man #123--but with the addition of the Avengers Mansion and the Baxter Building.

As part of the deal, the piece was colored by my extremely-talented buddy--Ian Sokoliwski.  Be sure to check out Ian's website on my links page.

X-MEN #112 RECREATION

This was one of the few covers I inked over George Perez during my time at Marvel. I've always been a big fan of George's work but, unfortunately, we've never really hooked-up on a project. I was scheduled to ink George over his Black Widow series for Marvel Premiere, but scheduling difficulties prevented me from taking the job. Who knows...maybe someday--?

marvel team-up #72 recreation

This was an early work by John Byrne and me, around the first year that I had started on Iron Man. A little known fact about the original version of this cover is that Byrne only provided blue pencil layouts on this piece, leaving me to embellish it as I saw fit. In the recreated version, I corrected a few mistakes I originally made on the armor design.

GIORDANO/MARVEL TWO-IN-ONE INKS

This is the first of two inking commissions from Marvel Two-In-One fanatic, Brian Sagar.  When he told me that he had a pencil job from my dear friend and mentor, Dick Giordano, I jumped at the opportunity to ink the bugger. You'll probably notice that I made a few adjustments to the Ben Grimm figure--just to bring it a little more 'on spec'.

valiant family reunion illustration

Chris Gould, one of the mightiest of Valiant supporters, commissioned me to do this 2005 class portrait of his favorite Valiant Universe characters. Chris went on to have the image transferred to tee-shirt that he could wear at this year's San Diego Comic Con.  He was also nice enough to send me one of those shirts. Thanks, Buddy!

DAVID ROSS/MARVEL TWO-IN-ONE INKS

Brian Sagar is charmingly obsessed with all things related to the Two-In-One title and even has a website devoted to his favorite Marvel series.  Recently, he commissioned one of my favorite pencillers in the business, David Ross, to pencil this page for him.  Happily, he asked me to ink it.
