IRON MAN #152 Variant RECREATION

This recreation was done for Aaron Bushey, a fellow Comic Art Fan.com member. Aaron asked if I could re-imagine the cover like I did for the Iron Man #142 Space Armor cover in my gallery. Here's the result.

Champions #15 Variant recreation

This was a challenging task. The fellow who commissioned this wanted a scene from Champs #15--but with the composition originally created by Mike Golden for Micronauts #15. I did my best to make it all work.

IRON FIST #1 Variant recreation

This piece was done for CAF member Scott Green. Scott wanted me to take a shot at re-imaginging the cover to the first issue of Iron Fist #1 that was original designed by the late Great Gil Kane. Happily, he also wanted me to lose the really silly word balloons on this cover, which featured some of the most banal dialogue ever put on a Marvel comic.

Tales of suspense  variant recreation

This piece was done for a fellow CAF member, Alberto Gonzales, and is also on display in his gallery there. Alberto wanted me to do something, utilizing two of his favorite villains, that would capture the flavor of the old split issues of T.O.S that featured Iron Man and Captain America. Be sure to check out Ian Sokoliwski's fantastic coloring of this commission below

X-MEN #113 RECREATION

Not to be confused by a previously-posted version of this classic John Byrne cover, this is my second recreation of this particular X-Men illustration that I did in August for my fellow CAF member, James Henry.

The first one I did was posted in here a few months back. And-- the next one--I should be able to do in my sleep, eh?

secret wars #5 variant recreation

This commission was done for Randy Martin of Tampa, FL. Since Randy is a big Rogue fan, I made her a bit larger on this version. He also opted for leaving the trade dress off.

Web of Spider-Man #28 recreation

This was one of my all-time favorite covers that I did on the Spider-Man titles, but I always hated that awful black "Secret Wars" costume. So, I thought it would be fun to recreate that cover, but with Spidey in his traditional blue & red duds.

perlin/Valiant charity benefit page

This is a collaboration that  Don Perlin recently asked me to participate in for an upcoming charity event.

The Auctocon was  held in Madison, WI on October 21st- 23rd of 2005. This show was a bit different than others, since the main focus of the event was a huge charity auction to benefit the Children's Hospital Of Wisconsin. For info, write to:auctocon@yahoo.com

magnus: robot fighter #6 cover recreation

This commission was done for  SonicDan, one of the biggest Valiant fans out there. The original cover was laid out by Jim Shooter and finished by me. Because there were considerable color effects on the cover, I used halftones to recreate the radiating energy on the Solar character.

perlin Solar: Man of the atom

My pal SonicDan also asked me to ink one of the Don Perlin penciled drawings in his art collection.  Since I always enjoy working over Uncle Don, I was more than happy to oblige.

HERCULES: THE END

PRESENTATION ART

A few years back, when I was still working for Marvel, I pitched a premise for my final Hercules mini-series and I did this drawing to go with the document. Obviously, Marvel didn't go with it (in fact, they never even bothered to respond). The story revolved around a humorous look at death and dying--something I thought might be appropriate for their "The End' series.

DAMON'S CREATURE PENCILS

Normally, I don't do penciled-only pages. (I personally feel the strength of my art lies in my inks.) Not that Damon Owens doesn't love my inks, but one of the guys that often inks his commissions (my ol' pal and brother-in-inking Bob Almond) told him he's always wanted to embellish something penciled by me.
