Iron Man #117 Variant Recreation

My pal and regular patron, Mike Jackson, had a fun idea for a recreation of the Iron Man #117 cover, originally designed by JRJR back during our first run on the series. He asked me to keep the same layout but replace the costumes with the current version of Iron Man and the Bad Blood version of the Spymaster. I also added the current Iron Man logo and numbering.

Unpublished Spectacular Spider-Man #65 Cover

I found this while looking for an old plot of mine. This was in an envelope marked "Spidey-Stuff" As I remember, this cover was rejected because I misunderstood what the editor wanted. He described a giant, looming Kraven--due to Spidey being drugged, but failed to tell me that he wanted it really wacked-out and acid-trippy.

Secret Wars #1 Recreation

This was a fun commission. I started with the original layout to Secret Wars #1 by the sensational Mike Zeck. However, I did make Iron Man the prominent figure in the composition (Gee--I wonder what made me do that?) and altered some of the background figures, as well.

Tales of Suspense #49 Variant Recreation

I've had several regulars inquire about having this particular cover redone--so, when I had a slow week, I thought I'd give it a shot. This version, based on the original cover by the great Jack Kirby, features updated versions of the Angel and Iron Man.

TRADEMARK & COPYRIGHT

COMIC TPB COVER

My favorite entertainment lawyer and former Future Comics mouthpiece, Michael Lovitz, is the author of this great educational comic that explains, in clear terms, the complicated legal mumbo-jumbo that any independent publisher needs to know.   Michael was nice enough to ask me to do the cover to the deluxe TPB edition.

LEEJA & ROBOT FROM MAGNUS: ROBOT FIGHTER

My pal Larry Clay sent me a couple of Magnus "Steel Nation" TPB's and asked me to draw a something for him on the inside cover.

This Leeja and a menacing robot was the one of the two that I really liked.

Iron Man: Evolution

This is a commission that I had a lot of fun doing. I was asked to use the same layout that I created for the cover of Freemind #3 to depict the evolution of the Iron Man armors.

I'm not allowed to say anymore about this drawing until it's presented as a gift later in December.  I'll tell you all about it in next month's letters page.

THE REALLY BIG IRON MAN BOARD

Terry Allen commissioned me to do this particular shot and even supplied me with the 2' x 3' Bristol board to draw it on. This blasted thing took me 6 working days to complete mostly due to the fact that I couldn't use any correction fluid on the piece.  The idea was the have Moose Baumann paint over it to create a massive color portrait. This shot is from a digital camera and doesn't really do it justice.

Unity Double-Page Poster

Every so often, I like to do a piece that's really big. After doing two Iron Man double-pagers, a couple of fans suggested that I do the same with the Valiant characters. This art area on this single sheet of Bristol is 18" x 26" and pays homage to one of my mentors--Barry Windsor-Smith, who taught me his unique, organic style of inking. I had to piece this scan together from three different xeroxes of the big board, so the jpeg doesn't do the original justice. Please make an offer on this piece which could be the ultimate gift this Christmas for the true Valiant fan.

BUCKLER/Layton IRON MAN VS KANG

This piece was one of several that my old pal Daren Domina had me ink last month. I have to say that it's been a lot of years since I've worked over a pencil drawing of Rich Buckler's.  The last time would have been--Star Hunters to be exact and that would take us to sometime in the mid 1970's.
