Marvel Team-up #110  unpublished COVER

I had misplaced the unpublished pencil version of this Spidey Team-up cover. It was so rough that I never considered finishing it once the editor had shot it down.

However, a die-hard Spidey fan convinced me to clean it up and ink it for him.

BOB'S COMIC CHARACTER PAGE

This is an illo I recently completed as the new opening art to my website's home page-- featuring many of the characters I created or that I'm best known for. The beautifully-rendered color version was done by Ian Sokoliwiski.  For those of you who would like to see more of Ian's work, go to the Bob Layton.com links page.

IRON MAN #120 cover recreation with aquaman

For the last several years, Vincent P. Bartilucci has been collecting commissions of his favorite super-hero, Aquaman.

Although the King of the Sea is not a character I've generally  been associated with, I really enjoyed doing this cover recreation of Iron Man #120, substituting Aquaman for Namor.

AMAZING SPIDER-MAN#220

UNPUBLISHED COVER

In an envelope with several Iron Man model sheets in it, I came across this unfinished,  first draft of a cover to Spidey #220 in pencil form.

After sending a jpeg of the pencils to a Spidey-fanatic friend of mine, he convinced me to finish the piece for his collection.

crimson DYNAMO MODEL SHEET

I found an envelope with several Iron Man model sheets in it over the weekend while Jill was spring cleaning her office.

1. The Crimson Dynamo--this one was the redesign I did prior to 'Armor Wars'.  As you might notice, several details were altered in the published version of this design--most notably, the epilates.

FIREPOWER MODEL SHEET

2. Firepower--this was the model sheet I made for Mark Bright for the finale of 'Armor Wars'.  The original measures 11 X  16"

THE GHOST MODEL SHEET

3. The Ghost--this was my original design for the character.  As you can see, nothing varied from the original concept to the finished page.

  The original measures 10 14 X  13 1/2"

THE TOTALLY F*&KEN COOL ZOOM SUIT #2 COVER

In this second Zoom Suit cover, I pay homage to  Iron Man #126's cover. Which, by the way, is ironic since that cover was an homage to Tales of Suspense #39.

John Taddeo, the creator, asked me to continue with the theme of covers based on Iron Man images made popular by me.

FRENZ THOR #419

UNPUBLISHED COVER

This is one of two, unpublished Ron Frenz Thor covers  commissioned by long-time fan and super-nice guy--Gary Sella for me to ink. I've always enjoyed drawing Thor and was the regular cover artist on the book back in the 80's. As you can see on the pencil version, I needed to add a few elements to complete the illo.

FRENZ/LAYTON THOR #427 UNPUBLISHED COVER

This is the second unpublished Ron Frenz Thor cover  commissioned by Gary Sella.

I found that I preferred this version to the published one, although the changes were subtle.

George Tuska x-men jam board

This is part of a George Tuska/X-Men jam board commissioned by my personal NFL football commentator --Larry Clay. Larry asked me to ink the Iceman figure to complete a large board with additional contributions from Dick Giordano (Marvel Girl), Al Milgrom (Angel), Bob McLeod (Prof. X), Joe Rubinstein (Cyclops) and Joe Sinnott (Beast).
