X-O MANOWAR DOUBLE-PAGE POSTER

This page, commissioned by my friend--Chris Gould, took me a grand total of 46 hours to complete. That's the longest it's ever taken me to complete a single page of art. Because of the 2' x 3' proportions, this jpeg was composed from 4 separate xeroxes that I had to piece together by hand.  Also, I altered some of the composition as I went along, realizing that a few elements would look better in other positions. My thanks to Chris for one of the more challenging assignments that I've had in quite a while. Here's a look at the fantastic coloring of Ian Sokoliwski on this piece.

X-FACTOR PINUP

Mike Conroy is an editor for a London-based publisher who provides behind-the-scenes features for its Classic Marvel Figurine Collection. Mike has Iceman and Angel issues coming up and asked me to do an interview about the duo, to offer my personal insight into the characters. Along with the interview, I created this pin-up for the article featuring my versions of Bobby Drake and Warren Worthington III.

Unpublished Tom Morgan X-Factor Cover Inks

This was one of many works of pencil art that Gary Sella (one of my best, long time regulars) commissioned me to ink. This pencil layout by Tom Morgan  was slightly off-center on the page, so I lightboxed it onto a new board and added the background elements in the inking process.

Invaders #15 variant Recreation

This was commissioned by Larry Clay, who asked for some sort of WW2 symbolic design for this cover. I left it somewhat open for color, since Larry intended to have the piece colored once I finished my part of the project. The  coloring of this cover is by Ian Sokoliwski.

WAR MACHINE

Here's a look at the fantastic color work of Mr. Ian Sokoliwski on last month's War Machine drawing, done for my website's "Iron Man Concept of the Month" feature. The single figure was originally part of a larger drawing that I didn't have time to finish before the publication date.  I finally got around to completing the original piece after publishing the March updates.

TALES OF SUSPENSE #47 RECREATION

Californian fan, Lance Suarez , commissioned me to do this recreation (The original version was done by Jack Kirby.) of Tales of Suspense #47 with the Melter.

This proved to be somewhat challenging, given the massive amount of cover copy present on the original cover.

Tales of Suspense #69/80 Recreation

This commission was done for British fan Paul Stephenson and presented a few compositional challenges. Paul asked to have two of his favorite T.O.S. covers combined into one page. Since the cover of #80 was a full page, I had to flop the #69 Iron Man image and alter a few aspects to get both images to fit.

HUMAN TORCH VS. THE WIZARD

Tom Perreira collects Human Torch-related art and was interested in a two-character pencil and ink commission. More specifically, he wanted Human Torch vs. any Marvel Universe character (hero or villain) of my choice.  I thought it would be interesting to pit the Torch against one of his oldest foes, the Wizard.

DOUBLE-SIZE HERCULES RECREATION

John Skoulides of London, England was looking for a drawing featuring his son, Mano, as one of the characters.  John wanted the composition  to accent his family's Greek heritage, so I set the background on Mt. Olympus.

The final illustration was too large for me to create a reduced xerox for my scanner.  Here's a digital photo of me with the completed drawing.

SEAN CHEN WOLVERINE INKS

This was another of the pencil pages that Gary Sella commissioned me to ink.  I jumped at the opportunity to ink anything by my former Valiant protégé' Sean Chen.

You can see why here.  Sean rocks!

Avengers #151 Inks over Kirby

This cover was commissioned by Gary Sella, who actually had a blue line version of Jack Kirby's pencils for me to work off of. I opted to do my part on it over a lightbox, rather than ink the blue line, since any alterations would be glaringly obvious with the blue ink underneath.
