November 2008
I apologize for not having the BOBLAYTON.COM website chock full of the usual features and updates that you’ve come to expect. I’m going to make every attempt to continue the monthly updates—even with the crazy work load I have at the moment! My current career situation has had me travelling back-and-forth to Hollywood for the last three months, working out the preliminaries deals to several projects based on properties created by David Michelinie and me. As most of you know, David and I have been beating our collective heads against the wall in Tinseltown for quite a few years. However, thanks to the huge success of the Iron Man motion picture, we’re suddenly being received as the ‘Godfathers’ of that character and all doors in Hollywood have miraculously opened to us.
It has proven to be the chance of a lifetime
However, most of our progress in Hollywood can be attributed to the timely intervention of our new representative and producer, David Uslan.
Thanks to the aggressive efforts by Dynamic David, we are currently negotiating several intellectual property deals, from the Future Comics characters to original material created by David M. and myself.
Fortunately, all is going well and I’m actually heading back out there for more business meetings from November 7th through the 21st.
As a result, my time in my art studio has become extremely limited through November.
The travel will also affect the amount of time I have for updating the website.
I’m still going to keep you informed and entertained, but I ask you all to be patient with me until my schedule clears a bit.
At the moment, with Iron Man:The End finally out of the way (On sale November 5th!! PLUG! PLUG!), I've finally found a few weeks to devote to my other Marvel assignments and to my commissions list. I’ve also completed the third plot to my upcoming Hercules mini-series and I hope to have a pencil art to preview for you by next month.
As you can witness for yourselves in this month’s art gallery, I found time to whittle away on my commissions list and there are at least another six assignments in some stage of completion on my drawing board as I write this blog. I’m very grateful, to all those who have been waiting, for their patience and understanding. You’ve all been terrific about encouraging me to move ahead with my opportunities and with your willingness to wait on me.
I extend my sincere thanks to each and every one of you.
Now for a quick grouse: I went out and bought two copies of the two-disk Iron Man DVD (one for my 82 yr. old Mom) and neither one of them had my Paramount digest cover book in it!!! I wondered, “What's that deal about that? Granted, I didn't go to Borders to purchase it. As it turned out, the giveaway was exclusive to Borders—although no one told me! Anyway—if you want a copy of that book, get your butt down to a Borders store and tell them that Bob sent you!
On to other business: Unfortunately, due to my travel schedule and some personal issues on his end, my friend and mentor Dick Giordano was not able to complete this month’s episode of COLONY before the November 1st publication date.
We’re hoping to be back on-track in December and have an all-new, exciting chapter in the lives of our fugitives as our adventure marches towards it’s conclusion this summer.
I genuinely appreciate the patience of you, the loyal readers. These are not ordinary circumstances and, considering that David and I have worked for thirty long years to get to this point, I KNOW each one of you can appreciate how important our current situation is to us.
Thank you again for your understanding and support!
See you next month!
Bob
