This interview was conducted in April of 2014 by Vicente García, Editor of Dolmen Magazine. Dolmen is produced and distributed in Spain and is nearly the last comic-book fan magazine of its kind, with a distinguished, 22-year history in publishing. Since it was published in Spanish, we decided to reissue the most comprehensive interview that Bob Layton has done to date in its original English version.
Whenever I do a convention panel or interview, I’m often asked; “Where do I see the future of comics going? Do I believe that the print side of publishing will eventually give way to online digital publishing or will people always want something tangible to read and keep?”
In response, I believe that we’ll always crave a tangible object to hold in our hands, to pass on to others or read while sitting on the porcelain pilot’s seat.
Back in February, during the firestorm of publicity surrounding the pending release of Iron Man 2, I was asked to participate in a plethora of interviews and personal appearances concerning the film. The venue I was most excited about was the invitation from one of my favorite publications — POPULAR SCIENCE.
In Bob Layton’s May 2010 journal article, Bob talks about his walk on the red carpet for the premiere of Iron Man 2: “It was definitely a no-holes-barred extravaganza as Marvel Studios and Paramount pulled out all the stops to make this the Hollywood event of the year.”
